Stefan Wintels, head of the state development bank KfW, talks about Germany's economic opportunities, the new arms subsidies and the criticism of his salary and cycle paths in Peru.

Despite everything, Stefan Wintels remains optimistic. The head of the state-owned development bank KfW sees potential in the high-tech sector for Germany. And he doesn't believe the issue of sustainability is over. Wintels, 58, has been at the helm of KfW since 2021 – and has recently faced some criticism. In an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung, he also commented on the Federal Court of Auditors' rebuke of parts of the bank's business policy and his salary.
